A Sailor's Life

We've almost adjusted to reality again after a month of conventions. Here's the news from the Thomas family:
1- Caitlin lost her first baby tooth! Even better, I pulled it out before she had a chance to swallow and possibly aspirate it.
2- When we were getting an oil change on Monday, the service guy found a mouse nest next to our engine. Thankfully, I didn't find any mice or damage to the car when I cleaned it out. I keep imagining that they wore old timey racing goggles and helmets when we drove around town. I blame too many Cleary books as a child.
3- Caitlin has been quite the hit at the holiday parties. On Thursday night she had a concert at the Barnes & Noble with the rest of her classes. I always want to cry every time one of her first grade friends comes up to her and says, "Hi, Caitlin." I didn't expect her to make so many friends in the regular first grade classroom. More of her classmates were also at the University holiday event on Friday night. I wish I knew their parents well enough to schedule some play dates. Caitlin also got to meet the NIU President (he was very sweet to her). I love Lynne's university so much. There's a real sense of community there.
4- I had a good writing week. I'm now a regular at the local Caribou (Panera's wi-fi was getting too flaky). They have a mug of light roast ready for me as soon as they see me enter the door. I like that. I'm not very good at the solitary writer thing, so this gives me the illusion of actually going to an office.
5- This makes me happy:
