Father's Day
We’re having a lazy father’s day today. This morning we went out to breakfast with my awesome mom. She was here all yesterday watching Caitlin while we did the con thing. Now we are all hanging out on the couch. The Cubs are winning 7-4, Caitlin is singing, and
rarelylynne is ready for a nap.
Duckon was fairly uneventful. It’s not the kind of con that Lynne and I normally attend. As Lynne put it, these fans are “fans of conventions.” There were no media panels, and the literary panel topics were extremely basic and perfunctory. They was, however, a large amount of programming dedicated to Furries and Klingons.
We ran into a couple friends. Nnedi Okorafor-Mbachu was there with her daughter, and
shsilver was there. It was nice to see them both. Most of our time was spent hanging out with
matociquala and
truepenny. Their readings went well, and they had a nice double-act going for all of their panels. We also all went to see a birds of prey demonstration put on by a bird rescue. It was fun, especially when a buzzard skimmed Lynne's hair.
We’re having dinner with them tonight, which should be a nice father's day treat. Hopefully they will survive the DeKalb/Sycamore cuisine.
