Disturbing GAO Report About Schools and Children with Special Needs
I wish I could be shocked by this story, but I still have strong memories of the isolation cell at my childhood junior high school. Every parent of a child with special needs should remember that this could happen to their child.
As a parent of a child with special needs, I work hard to have an active partnership with Caitlin's school and district. She currently has an excellent team that I trust. They've been very good to her, but I still get nervous every time a new staff member comes into her life. That's one of the reasons that I provide her transportation (I realize that this is a luxury). It gives me a chance to drop in and talk to her staff face to face. They know that I'm watching what they do with her.
