Forward Momentum

I just got off the phone with the case manager for the insurance company. We're through a couple of the hoops. We'll see what happens next. I have a good feeling about the Oral Motor/Speech Therapy services getting reinstated without a lengthy appeal process.

Things are quiet around here. I took Caitlin to the playground yesterday. My little girl loves to swing. I was the same way at her age. I think we were both meant to fly. :)

[livejournal.com profile] rarelylynne is down in Champaign/Urbana again today. I think she's burning more Dan Brown books. She's still giddy about her ride in the fire truck on Tuesday.

Lynne was hopping around the house last night after reading [livejournal.com profile] agentxpndble's Torchsong con report. Carole Barrowman apparently mentioned that she had contributed an essay to Chicks Dig Time Lords during her Q & A. It finally dawned on Lynne that she's co-editing a book that will probably end up on a shelf in John Barrowman's house. Between that and seeing the cover art for Special Collections 2.0, Lynne was a mighty ball of squee.

I actually managed to get my final rewrites done on a short story while Caitlin watched an endless supply of Hannah Montana episodes. Lynne needs to do a quick copy edit, but it's otherwise finished. I'm sending it to Asimov's first. I'm expecting a rejection, but you never know.

The Secret Handshake

[livejournal.com profile] kellymccullough wrote some smart things today about building a writing career. The gist is that there is no "secret handshake" for success. It really comes down to two things: write a very good story and be a professional.

The professional part seems like a no-brainer, but there are plenty of writers out there who behave like total asses and then seem surprised that nobody wants to work with them.
