I've been following the fall-out from the Harlequin vanity press debacle since
eeknight brought it to my attention. SF/Paranormal Romance writer
jackiekessler just made an excellent post that breaks everything down and explains why this is a BAD THING. I really hope that all of the pressure from the RWA and the professional Romance writers will force Harlequin to drop this scam.
Thank the maker that none of the main SF/F publishers have explored this exploitative revenue stream option.
In other SF/F news, there's an interesting article on File 770 about the future of WorldCon. It will be interesting to see how things go in 2012 when Chicago WorldCon goes head to head with Dragon*Con.
My prediction: WorldCon will eventually transform into a trade show for Science Fiction professionals with only a handful of fans showing up.
