My Busy Wife

[livejournal.com profile] rarelylynne is off speaking at an event for the comic book exhibit she curated. Here's a list of some of the things Lynne has done this week:

1- Went to a bunch of meetings at the American Library Association midwinter conference in Boston.
2- Visited her family in Worcester.
3- Curated a comic book exhibit at the NIU Art Museum (she was also interviewed by the local paper and college paper).
4- Finished and sent back the proofs to Chicks Dig Time Lords.
5- Participated in a SFWA online panel discussion about the Google settlement.
6- Cried about the generosity of our friends after they raised the money to send her to the Gallifrey One convention for the Chicks Dig Time Lords launch.
7- Finalized all of those travel plans for Gally.
8- Worked on some publicity events for CDTL.
9- Had a dozen meetings at work.
10- Still managed to be an excellent mother and wife.

Lynne's considering taking a day off in the next couple of weeks. That might be a good idea. ;-)

SF/F Diversity- Archives Edition

Every few months, the SF/F Internet Bubble explodes about the lack of diversity in this magazine or that anthology. When [livejournal.com profile] rarelylynne started her mission to save the archives of SF/F authors, she only set 2 guidelines:
1- You must be eligible for SFWA membership (there have been exceptions).
2- No assholes (thankfully, no exceptions).

Lynne approached different authors without really thinking about things like, "I need to archive more *blank* authors." Here's the breakdown of the NIU SF/F Author Archives:

Total Authors: 40 (more are on the way)

Men: 17
Women: 23

Authors of Color: 4

GLBT Authors: 5 (to the best of my knowledge)

Oldest Author: 88 years old
Youngest Author: 30 years old

I'm very proud of my wife. It's kind of cool that she's put together a collection that can contain the papers of both Nisi Shawl and David Weber. :-)
