Remember that routine trip to the Pediatric Orthopedist? On the plus side, Caitlin's scoliosis is still between 30 and 40 degrees. So, no back surgery.
We weren't expecting the bad news, though. Most of you have probably read the details in
rarelylynne's blog. the gist is that Cait's left femur head is sliding out of its hip socket. She's not in any pain, but she will be if it comes completely out. The solution is an extensive surgery to cut the bone and place it back in the socket at the right angle with the help of screws and such. Her doctor will also need to tweak the right hip. This will be a 5-6 hour surgery with 4-6 weeks of recovery.
It will be a painful recovery for Caitlin. Once she's healed from the surgery, she'll have to do a lot more PT to regain her muscle strength.
We're going to try to schedule the surgery for December so she won't miss too much school.
Did I mention we'll find out on the 21st if she also needs eye surgery?
We've had a good run. Cait hasn't had any surgery for 6 years. Still, I hate the idea of putting my little girl through this ordeal.
