Things Are Tough All Over

I feel almost petty writing about this. We have so many friends in worse situations. Last night, the Recession/Depression finally visited the Thomas household.
We just got some details about the new Illinois State Budget for fiscal year 2009-2010. We already knew about the possibility of forced increases of retirement savings by 2% and unpaid work furloughs for state employees. We didn't have any details, though, about the proposed health care changes. That changed last night when
rarelylynne got an email from the NIU HR department. It seems that the current proposal is to raise the employee contribution for the PPO by 245%!!! This would amount to something like $200-$400 more for our health care per month. There is no way we can do this.
If this budget passes in the state legislature, we have no choice but to downgrade to an HMO plan. This would not be a big deal if it wasn't for Caitlin. This could devastate her care plan. We could lose her doctors, have increased hassles over her equipment, and lose a lot of her home therapy hours.
ARRGGGHHH!!!!!
I never thought that I would miss Blago.
