First, congratulations to all of the Hugo/Campbell winners (especially David Anthony Durham and [livejournal.com profile] matociquala). I really can't complain too much. Even if the winners weren't always the "best," I think they were a good snapshot of what's important in SF during the late 00's.

Worldcon seemed like a lot of insane fun. It was hard to read the updates and look at the pictures of our friends having fun without us. I learned one major thing from the con reports. Apparently, I need to employ a filker to explain my points during my panels. Who knew? :P

As some of you might remember, [livejournal.com profile] rarelylynne and I had articles in [livejournal.com profile] shsilver's Hugo-nominated fanzine Argentus. Sadly, it didn't win. I was pleased, however, to find out that it tied for first place during the nomination process.

Switching fan hats, Doctor Who novelist Lawrence Miles popped out of his bunker and said some interesting things about Torchwood, complex characterizations, and the differences between television drama and Cult TV. If you can get past some of his pointless personal attacks, there's some good stuff in there about the need to have protagonists and antagonists who don't always stick to the expected moral standards of the viewer.
