I'm in a Writers' Group!

I was invited to join an SF/F writers' group a couple of months ago. I responded by bouncing off the walls and saying yes in about 3 seconds. As many of you know from previous posts, I'm an extrovert. I love the concept of writers' groups. Even though I appreciate and adore my online crit partners, I find the concept of meeting face to face with a bunch of talented writers alluring. I was very envious of my friends in groups like the Wyrdsmiths.
I did the writers' group thing once in my youth. We were in our early 20s and filled with more drama than talent or focus. This new opportunity seemed like a chance to do it right with adults who are serious about this writing thing.
As I waited for the first meeting, the doubts crept into my brain. What if these people are crazy? What if they're weird hacks? Is it worth the hour-long drive to the College of DuPage?
Last night was my first meeting. I had a great time. This group is intelligent and laid back. They also share my professional goals. I can't wait to hear what they have to say about my work.
As an additional plus, I came up with a short story idea while making the drive. :-)
