Not a Shabby Weekend
May. 12th, 2008 02:28 pmIt was a weird and groovy weekend. Here are some of the highs and lows.
Friday night I saw my friend David’s band Oh, Alchemy at The House in downtown DeKalb. It was nice to get out to a show. Oh, Alchemy was great, as was a teen garage band called the Natives. The headliners worked hard and have mothers who love them. We know this since most of their moms and dads were there dressed like they were vacationing at Epcot. Basically I sat with David, Sarah and the band all night talking music and stuff. I almost felt young and cool again.
Saturday was for the extended family. My mother is in the hospital with a stone in her mouth. It’s painful, but not life threatening. I felt real bad for her, and it was really hard to be back in a hospital so soon after my grandmother’s passing. After some serious antibiotics and a small surgery, though, she should be fine.
After we visited my mom, we stopped by and saw my grandfather, aunt, uncle, and cousin. It was a lovely evening with good food. My grandfather is doing much better than expected. He really liked seeing Caitlin. They spent an hour blowing raspberries at each other.
We ended up doing Mother’s Day with Sarah and David. It mostly consisted of
rarelylynne’s second favorite activity, shopping. We went to the ginormous Woodfield Mall, Lynne bought clothes at H & M, and we ate dinner at the Stir Crazy. It was a lovely time for all.
Caitlin had a good day at school today. It looks like her transition IEP meeting is going to be smoother than I was anticipating.
Overall, things are calming down around here.
