Back in the Bubble
Aug. 20th, 2008 07:56 amLast night we reentered the SFnal bubble. It involved a well-planned tactical strike into the heart of the Chicago suburbs. Our friends Sarah and David watched the Cait as
rarelylynne and I flew to the restaurant. Plans were tweaked due to traffic, so we ended up having dinner with our friend
shsiver instead of the author at the same Italian restaurant that we took Cory Doctorow to a few months ago. It was a pleasant dinner. We got to hear all of Steven's tales from WorldCon. He was nominated for two Hugos this year. He didn't win, but they did give him a nifty consolation pen with a flash drive in the cap.
After dinner, Lynne had coffee with the author at ye olde Starbucks. It seemed to go well. After that, we all headed to the reading and signing. The author read a fun short story from an upcoming anthology. We got some books signed, I cracked the author up by making some Eragon jokes, and we wrapped up with enough time to get home at a reasonable hour.
It was a successful night for the Lynne as she continues to play the long game. It amazes me how much she's accomplished in a couple of years at NIU. Ten years from now, NIU will be one of the major centers of SF studies.
