Panels at Odyssey Con

michaeldthomasLast night, the preliminary panel list came out for Odyssey Con in Madison. I’ve been on a lot of panels before. I’ve done panels at last year’s Odyssey Con, Convergence, Geek.Kon, Windycon, Chicago TARDIS, and The Aicardi conference. I love being on panels. It’s exciting, fun, and I get to babble on about my favorite things.
I really don’t get nervous about panels. I try not to volunteer for things that I know nothing about, and usually my fellow panelists are other fans or acquaintances. This Odd Con is a bit different. truepenny. That’s only a little intimidating. I know them, and I’ve been on panels with truepenny before. With them I just have to step back a little and try not look like too much of an idiot since they’re both well read and articulate.
What has made my heart stop is that I’m on a panel with George R.R. Martin. That freaks me out. I’ve heard thatgrrm is a nice guy from those who have met him, but it’s still a little overwhelming. He’s a major author of our time, an outspoken curmudgeon, and one of my favorite authors.
I just hope that I don’t sound like a gibbering fool.
At least I have a couple of months to get myself ready.
