They said we wouldn’t last...
All right, only three people told us that, but they weren’t exactly known for their own great decision-making. After all of the insanity that was
rarelylynne and I falling in love, I think everybody else was too scared to get in our way. But that’s a story for another time in the far future. Feel free to ask for it at a bar or restaurant after everybody has had a couple of cocktails.
Eight years ago today, Lynne and I got married at a Unitarian Church in Hamden, Connecticut. It was an engagement of about two months. My family was unable to attend due to the short notice. Lynne’s family drove down from Massachusetts with a motley assortment of Lynne’s old friends. My best man was a pregnant ex-girlfriend who was able to attend since her husband’s sister was at Yale and this gave them a chance to multi-task.
We wrote our own ceremony. I remember very little of it since we were crying the whole time. We barely noticed that anybody else was there. The reception was lunch at a restaurant called Eli Whitney’s. It was a whirlwind day that capped off a whirlwind 10 months since we first fell in love.
I haven’t regretted a single second. I am still goofy in love with my life. She is my best friend, and the most beautiful woman that I have ever known. Lynne is still fascinating, and I never get tired of spending time with her. She’s smart, brave, funny, and always surprising.
I am the luckiest bastard that ever lived.
