Wrapped up in books

I’m feeling much better today even though I have a little headache. My sekrit fanzine article is off with my reader, I began rewriting Chapter 4 of the novel, and I started writing a new short story this morning. I’ve been reading a lot of short fiction lately in order to become more comfortable writing it, so hopefully it will go better than my last couple of attempts.
We finished up all of the documentaries from the Doctor Who “Beneath the Surface” box set last night. I was very happy with all of them. This is a fantastic release. It actually helped me remember why I have some affection for the Pertwee era.
Speaking of Doctor Who, we watched “Midnight” a couple of nights ago.
It was easily the best episode of the current season. It’s a nice mash-up of Doctor Who and some Twilight Zone episodes. RTD finally wrote to his strengths of characterization and dialogue and stopped trying to play with plot and SF ideas. He’s not a natural SF writer, and it works much better when he doesn’t toss in idiotic explanations or a davies ex machina. Midnight was well acted and genuinely creepy. I’m finally looking forward to the big finale.
