Day of Lists

The AFI just released it lists of top ten films by genre. Like most AFI lists, they're arbitrary lists of crap. Here are the science fiction and fantasy lists:

Wrapped up in books

I’m feeling much better today even though I have a little headache. My sekrit fanzine article is off with my reader, I began rewriting Chapter 4 of the novel, and I started writing a new short story this morning. I’ve been reading a lot of short fiction lately in order to become more comfortable writing it, so hopefully it will go better than my last couple of attempts.

We finished up all of the documentaries from the Doctor Who “Beneath the Surface” box set last night. I was very happy with all of them. This is a fantastic release. It actually helped me remember why I have some affection for the Pertwee era.

Speaking of Doctor Who, we watched “Midnight” a couple of nights ago.

The Boy with the Thorn in His Side

Critiques do not hurt me. I do not suck. Constructive criticism makes me a better writer.

My reader got back to me with some good points about my sekrit fanzine essay. They were valid points, but I still freaked out in the back of my head; self-doubt played a rumba beat on my lobes.

The first time I was supposed to do a reading of my work in my initial writers' group, I left the room and had somebody else do it. I shook for hours. I got better during my creative writing classes, but I still experience a lot of anxiety when somebody catalogs the flaws of my work.

I blame an educational system that basically trained me to take scan-tron tests. Give me a number two pencil, and I can rule the world. :)
