Writing Update

Some quick hits on my writing:

I just passed the 1/3-point on the revisions to Murder Ballads. At this stage, I’m more focused on the line edits than the structural and character problems. I am addressing some of those problems now, but I really need to clean up the whole manuscript first in order to get the big picture.

It’s fun when I stumble onto foreshadowing for elements that I later dropped.

I’m still happy the book. We’ll see what happens once it’s critiqued. :)

In other news, my role on Fluid Links expanded a bit. I now have a lot of writing to do over the next few months. Since rarelylynne also has a deadline for her book coming up, it looks like the TV will be going off more in the evening. Nothing says love like side-by-side laptops.

Pitchfork Music Festival

I’m off to the Pitchfork Music Festival with my friends Sarah and David tomorrow. Hopefully, I won’t seem like too much of a sad, old bastard out there. I’m only familiar with a handful of the bands (Vampire Weekend, Boris, Animal Collective, Apples in Stereo, Dinosaur Jr.). I’m mostly excited about seeing Jarvis Cocker live. Pulp provided much of the soundtrack to my wasted youth.

It should be fun, except for the heat, humidity, overflowing port-a-johns, and the $5 bottle of water.

Bittersweet Days

It was a bittersweet week in Caitlin’s life. This was her last week of summer school, which meant that it was also the last week with her individual assistant. Caitlin has had the same assistant since she started Brooks Elementary almost three years ago. Caitlin’s assistant was wonderful. They had an amazing rapport with each other. She treated Caitlin like her own child and helped Caitlin achieve impossible things. We all cried a lot on the last day. We’re really going to miss her.

Caitlin’s off for the next couple of weeks, and then she starts kindergarten. I have no idea where all of that time went.
