After two days of being outside, my face feels like a piece of jerky. At least it's a happy piece of jerky. :)

Pitchfork was brilliant. I had a great time. 17,000 thousand people crowded into Chicago's Union Park and listened to some great music.

I realize that most of my f-list peeps aren't that interested in the indie music scene, so here are some quick highlights from the weekend:

1- Hanging out with Sarah, David, Jeremy, Adam, Michelle, and Tim. It's nice to talk music with friends.

2- The drizzle and clouds made it very easy to stand outside for 8 hours on Saturday.

3- I loved the sets from The Hold Steady, Apples in Stereo, and Vampire Weekend.

4- Jarvis Cocker is still a god. He swaggered up there like the tenth Doctor's sleazy older brother. I wished he had dipped into his Pulp legacy, but it was an otherwise phenomenal set.

5- The sun on Sunday made watching Boris awful.

6- People still like pot. A lot.

7- 19-year-old girls love Vampire Weekend, and I still hate drunken, obnoxious frat boys at shows.

8- Our friend Jeremy sold his novel to a small press. Hooray!

9- I had great Indian food in the Devon Ave. Indian neighborhood.

10- I still love eating pie at a diner late at night after a concert.

I can't wait until next year.

[livejournal.com profile] rarelylynne's crusade to save modern SF for posterity continues. Today, she made the announcement that Tamora Pierce is now officially archiving her work at NIU. The list keeps growing and growing. In the coming decades, NIU will be one of the major centers for SF studies. Hopefully, this will mean that SF/F will be recognized as the major literary movement of the last 40 years, and we will no longer be subjected to cutesy crap like The New York Times' review of Moorcock's work from this weekend.

For those keeping track at home, here is the current official list:

Jack McDevitt
E.E.Knight
Sarah Monette
Elizabeth Bear
Kage Baker
Tamora Pierce
Tobias Buckell
Caroline Stevermer
Kelly McCullough
Donald Bingle

There are over 25 more authors who have said yes, but materials are still on the way.

I'm glad that I can finally talk about the [livejournal.com profile] tammypierce thing. We had an awesome breakfast with her at WisCon. It took Lynne and her about ten minutes to conduct business. After that, I had the privilege of listening to two amazing, brilliant women dissect Little Women with each other. It was an absolutely fascinating conversation.
